Jason DeTroy

Jason Ford DeTroy is a South African born American professional surfer, musician, singer-songwriter, producer and entrepreneur He was born in Johannesburg South Africa. He moved to Monroe Georgia when he was an infant and lived there until he was ten years old. At ten years old he moved to Dover Massachusetts where he spent the rest of his childhood. 

Jason played football and hockey in high school. He was also apart of his high school film and music programs. He had a love for surfing and music since a young age. He learned to surf at age five. He began to take piano lessons at age four and guitar lessons at age eight. He began writing his own songs at age thirteen. 

He studied English at Villanova University and helped to start their frisbee golf team. He was in a band called 'Facehumpers' in which he was the lead guitarist.  He was a high school english teacher until he decided to quit and pursue surfing at age 23. 

He had to take a break from surfing in 2012 after a shark attack. It took him two years to recover from the attack. During those two years Jason focused on his music. In 2014 he decided to move to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in country music. In 2016 he moved back to Boston Massachusetts, and opened his own record label with his brother, Cody and cousin, Rhys called DeTroy Music.
